Old Brittish Table Refinish

Postby badlutz » Mon Feb 17, 2014 8:50 pm

Hi guys. I'm a newcomer to the site. I do a good bit of wood work from designing to building but a little light on the refinishing side. I am working on an old table which I will post pics tomorrow when I pick it up. I just wanted a second opinion on the top. It has a veneer top that looks like a white oak maybe. The thickness of the table is 1 1/2" and about 36" round. I am debating replacing the veneer vs rebuilding the top completely. I saw no immediate damage to the top core. I have worked with laminates but not veneer and just want a really nice outcome. This is a very old piece. I have made several table tops and they are labor intensive. So what would you do?
The bottom of this table is an amazing piece! Will show pics tomorrow night.
