I am finishing Bairwood cabinets. I started with Zinzer 123, which went on really strangely this time. After that I used Valspar cabinet paint which is an oil based enamel. It turned into a disgusting yellow mess! So then I primed it again with Zinsser BIN. Now it actually looks amazing. What would happen if I did not topcoat the sensor BIN… Would itPill or chip easily? Because the finish looks almost like what you would buy in the store. It has a slight sheen but it’s not too shiny. And it seems hard as nails. The cabinets are going to be used as an entertainment center in the living room. So they’ll get somewhere but nothing like kitchen cabinets would.

Zinnsser 123 is a water based primer. Valspar is a paint. Zinnsser BIN is an alcohol based shellac primer.
Since BIN is alcohol based, which is thinner or 'runnier', it may have filled in gaps, brush strokes, etc from the 2 previous coats.
