Hayward Wakefield dining room chairs

Postby jimleejetpilot » Tue Jan 04, 2011 4:45 pm

I bought 4 refinished Hayward Wakefield chairs a few years ago. When they arrived the front legs were just slightly loose. They have become progressively worse over the past few years.

I took one of the chairs and unscrewed the screw that holds the leg to the chair. I had to pull and wiggle the leg for awhile to get it to come out. I know if I used glue it would probably work, but since the chairs are as old as I am and they didn't seem to be glued, I thought I'd better ask for expert advice.

Thank you in advance for the answer.

Jim

It's difficult to provide advice without photos or better description of the problem

Jim

I'd have no problem gluing the legs using hide glue. Hide glue is sold in most hardware stores. If a problem finding it let me know I'll get you some web sources. Hide glue is also reversible, so it won't depreciate the value of the chairs. After the hide glue sets up, I'd put the orig. screws back in place.
