Restoring Drexel Tabletop

Hello,
We bought a Drexel Esperanto dinning table from 1968. The table is in an overall good condition.
The lacquer on the top has cracks that follow the grain of the veneer below and at the center of the table there are few areas where the lacquer was completely chipped off but the veneer itself is in a good condition.
From reading about Drexel finishing I am assuming that the finish is lacquer so I tested it with a drop of lacquer thinner and the finish became sticky.
I am looking for a way to restore the original lacquer rather than strip the tabletop (as the stain is in the lacquer itself) and to do the work myself.
I was reading on different methods on the internet but I couldn’t find one that completely aligns with what I would like to do.
